Importance to the world and human benefit.
Ways humans benefit
•Mining: Beneath the Boreal Forests live extractable deposits of high value metals such as iron, zinc, nickel, uranium, gold, and silver. •Hydroelectric Power: The Taiga regions that are hilly can maintain a firm ground and make good sites for hydroelectric plants. In Norway, hydropower accounts for more than 90% of electric power. •Timber, Pulp, Paper, Industries: Large industries have been developed to harvest timber, paper and pulp. In the early 19th century, timber was needed for barrels, planks and ship masts. |
Importance to the Planet
•The Taiga is important to the planet because it filters millions of liters of water a day. •Also the massive amount of trees removes carbon dioxide and converts it into oxygen. Biodiversity •The Taiga: In Russian it translates to Forests. Ranges from -65º to 70º F. Mainly has two seasons, Winter and Summer. •Tundra: Located in the Arctic, extremely cold climate, low biotic diversity, a short season of growth and reproduction. Temperature is an average of -18º F. •Tropical Rainforest: 6% of the land is a jungle. Over floods the floor with trees. Temperature falls between 23-27º C. |
