Threats to the Taiga
•Natural Gas Reserves: Vast amount of petroleum lie under coniferous forests, high demand for fossil fuels are pushing exploration and development into areas that were thought to be impossible to explore.
•Global Warming: The southern regions of the Taiga can become warm enough for deciduous trees to out compete the conifers and replace them.
•Logging: These forests are very slow to re-grow large amounts, which have also been known for flooding due to hydroelectric plants.

What is being done?
•The TRN (Taiga Rescue Network) is an international network zoo. A non-governmental organization, indigenous people and individuals working to defend the world’s forests, commonly known as the Taiga. Established in 1992 to give voice to support and publicize local struggles.
•The mission: Strengthen cooperation between individuals.
1)Promoting socially beneficial economically viable and sound management of the boreal forests.
2)Ensuring indigenous peoples’ rights are respected and locally controlled resources are guaranteed.
3)Protect old-growth forests.
4)Halting destructive extraction and wasteful consumption of products from the forests.
What we would do to protect the forests.
•Donate money to corporations.
•Sustain and recycle rather than trashing material.
•Work towards conservation and establish protected areas.
•Map trade links of the boreal forests.
